Practical Driving Test

Return To Home Page

The practical driving test is taken with a DSA examiner which usually last about 40 mins.  The cost for this test is currently £56.50, and is booked with the DSA.

The examiner will take you on a route designed to test your driving skills.  You will also have to do 2 reversing manoeurves.  You are allowed up to 15 minor driving faults which the examiner will record on your test sheet - but any serious or dangerous driving faults on your test and you will fail!  About 90% of test failures occur at junctions or roundabouts for observations,  so take special care at these hazards.

The top ten reasons why people fail their practical driving test are:

1  Observations at junctions (Ineffective observation and judgement).
2  Reverse parking (Ineffective observation or lack of accuracy).
3  Use of mirrors (Not checking or acting on the information).
4  Moving away (Ineffective observation or control).
5  Use of signals (Not given, not cancelled or misleading signals).
6  Incorrect positioning (At roundabouts, lanes and bends).
7  Reversing around a corner (Ineffective observations or lack of accuracy).
8  Lack of steering control (Steering too early or leaving it too late).
9  Turn round in road (Ineffective observation or lack of accuracy).
10 Inappropriate speed (Travelling too slowly).

We have one multi-purpose test centre in this area, located at:-

Reservoir Road, Hull, East Yorkshire, HU6 7PY.

Before your test get a good nights sleep.  Dress comfortably - Try to relax,  and have confidence in your ability.  Give the examiner a smooth controlled drive that you can both enjoy.
